protect georgia funds from woke ideology

Children deserve a library experience that enriches their education and preserves their innocence—not one that exposes them to ideologically charged content under the guise of education. This bill aims to ensure that our libraries remain beacons of knowledge and neutrality, safeguarding our children from the infiltration of radical ideologies funded by taxpayer dollars.

What does this bill do?

The proposed bill seeks to prohibit the use of taxpayer and privately donated funds by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and by city, county, and regional public library trustees for any activities, materials, or operations associated with the American Library Association (ALA) or its affiliates. This measure aims to return the focus of libraries to their core mission of education and neutral information access, stripping away any politically or ideologically driven agendas.

  • Restriction of Funds: The bill restricts all taxpayer and privately donated funds from being used by Georgia libraries for ALA-related activities unless specifically related to accreditation applications.

  • Responsibility Transfer: Certification and continuing education responsibilities for librarians will be transferred from the ALA to the Georgia Council of Public Libraries.

  • Enforcement and Compliance: Libraries will be held accountable for adhering to these restrictions, with penalties for non-compliance including the possibility of revocation of funding and licenses.
why defund the ALA?

The call to defund the American Library Association (ALA) stems from a profound misalignment between its leadership’s ideologies and the core values of Georgia’s taxpayers. Former ALA President Emily Drabinski, a self-described “Marxist lesbian,” advocated for agendas that starkly contrasted with the principles many Georgians support. Here are just a few examples of what Drabinski said or did during her tenure:

In addition, the ALA has:

  1. Targeted children as young as 0-5 for sexual indoctrination with leftist gender ideology, cramming down books on local libraries that contain inappropriate sexual content, encourage the normalization of cross-dressing, lie about basic biology, promote confusion about children’s identities and pronoun usage, and indoctrinate acceptance of deviant sexual behavior.

  2. Promoted drag queen story hours for children as young as toddlers.

  3. Attacked parents and local community activists as “Nazis,” “Christo-fascists,” and other demeaning epithets for wanting to remove sexual content from kids’ sections.

  4. Wielded grant money to force compliance with their favored book lists, featuring LGBTQ indoctrination, Marxist polemics, and pornographic content.

  5. Trained public library employees on how to prevent Christians from holding events.

  6. Gave a prestigious award to a children’s book aimed at 12-year-olds containing graphic descriptions and illustrations of oral sex, masturbation, sex toys, orgasms, and transgender fantasies.

  7. Recommended books like “This Book is Gay” (2014) to local libraries for children, which diagrams oral and anal sex and teaches middle-schoolers how to download and use the LGBTQ+ hookup app Grindr.
